We didn't leave our campsite at Geneva State Park until after 11 am. That's okay though because we planned it this time. The reason why we got going so late is because our host in Cleveland wouldn't be able to meet up with us until after 11pm anyway (or whenever the Indians game ended which could be have been much later as there is no time limit for baseball games). So we got started at 11. Arrived in Cleveland at around 6. We took an almost 2 hour lunch break because the sun was blistering hot. We had an awesome pace for the day however, clocking in a 4 minute mile moving average by the end of the day. After the first 10 miles or so most of the day was a gradual decline. Still, punching in 51 miles on a day we got started at 11 am felt pretty good. We're at point now where we can knock 50 mile days down pretty routinely. We soon expect to kick that up a notch and start knocking 60 and 70 mile days down. Especially as our bodies become more acclimated and the terrain becomes much flatter than the hilly roads we started off on in PA.
We rode along Lake Erie for the entire day again. It was always on our right side providing a scenic view whenever desired. After getting to Cleveland we went straight to a bar restaurant and had almost 50 chicken wings between the 3 of us. And that was just our appetizer. It was actually impressive how quickly we negated 50 miles of cycling in an hour and a half of eating wings at the bar. No guilt was felt. We worked hard for those wings.
After we got food, we headed over to Progressive Field where the Indians were playing the Detroit Tigers and waited for the game to finish. Once the game ended our host Sean met us outside the stadium. He rode his bike to work so that we could all ride to his place together after the game. It was a really nice 10 minute ride which went across Hope Memorial Bridge. There was a gorgeous view of the city while going across the bridge at night which was drop dead beautiful.
We got back to Sean's place and took some much needed showers. We chatted with Sean for a bit before heading off to bed. He offered some biking advice and suggestions on places to visit in Cleveland. We then hit the hay a little later than usual, but looking forward to our second rest day of the trip here in Cleveland, Ohio.
