DAY 15
Day 15 was a rest day in Cleveland. We started the day off going to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame which was pretty cool. It had everything from the Blues era to Jimmy Hendrix and Elvis Presley to the founders of hip-hop and all the way up to artists like Billie Eilish.
We spent a few hours at the museum and then went to find some Cleveland signs to get some classic "I went to Cleveland here's the proof" tourist photos. Here is said proof:
And here's us when we were rollin into Cleveland along Lake Erie the day before:
We then roamed around the city a bit, got some food and some drinks with Sean later at night and called it a day.
Thanks again to our awesome host Sean! We asked if he's ever had people with this much stuff stay at his place before and he said "No, I've never seen so much stuff in this room before." We said he should take a picture of it and he said he already did the night prior. Here's a picture of us with Sean and all our stuff:
He was super helpful in giving us advice on how to spend our rest day in the city as well as how to structure the rest of our trip. He actually got us thinking about possibly changing our route after we hit Chicago. We still have to talk about it more but if we do change our route it will be announced and our new pathway will be posted. That is tbd. Thanks once more Sean for being an awesome host.
DAY 16
We left Sean's at around 10:30. We were worried it was going to be raining in the morning but we're delighted to see it seemed dry when we got up. We got our stuff together and hit the road. We were making good time and loving the flat roads of Ohio until around 12 or so when it started raining slightly harder than we were comfortable riding in. We pulled over to the side of the road for 20 minutes or so and covered up all our bags. We got goin once the rain lightened up but sure enough it started raining fairly hard. We stopped for a very short while and decided to keep going as it was going to rain for the rest of the day and we didn't want to be sitting around. Tom and Owen threw on their rain jackets, I broke out my poncho and we got to work. We rode 30+ miles in the rain that day. Easily the most undesirable ride we've been on thus far.
Our bags got soaked. All our shoes and clothes got soaked. It was rough. We still managed to cover 56.4 miles nonetheless. I'll tell ya, we're almost 3 weeks in and we've really been hit with some rough challenges. But nothing has stopped us yet. I am confident that nothing will.
We were planning on camping out in Sandusky for the night but as we got closer and it got later in the day, we saw the forecast showed rain throughout the entire night. We figured we dealt with enough rain during the day and didn't need to burden ourselves with worrying about it throughout the night as well. So we opted to book room in a motel for the night, our second time doing so thus far on the trip. We got to the motel, dried our clothes out, took warm showers and slept on comfortable beds. The rough day of riding made getting a room for the night well worth it.
I feel like whenever we stay in a motel or someone hosts us, it's almost as if we're hitting the reset button. We know we'll be somewhere safe and secure for the night which means a good nights sleep. We have access to showers which is always welcomed for obvious reasons. And often times laundry is available as well, so we can clean up the dirty piles growing in our bags. For those reasons thank you motels and people who host us.
Till tomorrow, peace
